At Aquarius we are here to help people overcome the harms caused by drugs, alcohol and gambling. We are a local charity with over 30 years of experience providing advice and support across the Midlands.

Young People’s Gambling Service

Interactive education sessions and training around gambling for young people and professionals working with young people.

• We normally stay at the Aquarius. We walked over to the Aquarius early Monday morning to get some coffee and Bailey's from Duet and decided to try our luck. Gambled for a good 8 hours and did the best we've ever done. Thank you Aquarius! Tip of the hat to the casino staff for making sure guests were wearing masks.

Did you know that more young people gamble than drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or take illegal drugs? The Gambling Commission revealed in November 2018 that 450,000 young people reported gambling in the past week.

We’re here to help.

Our 50-minute workshops aim to educate young people about gambling awareness and harm reduction in groups of up to 15 young people. We also offer training for professionals, which equips you with the knowledge to deliver educational group sessions on gambling to young people you work with.

What is problem gambling?

Problem gambling is gambling that ‘disrupts or damages personal, family or recreational pursuits.’ Approximately 9 people in every 1000 currently have a problem with gambling; however, a further 70 people per 1000 gamble at risky levels that could become a problem in the future (Royal College of Psychiatrists).

Volunteers and Peer Mentors

We recognise that many people who have used our services are highly motivated and want to give something back through volunteering and peer mentoring.

Peer mentors and volunteers make a valuable contribution to the organisation and promote the following:

• Meeting, greeting and hospitality
• Administrative support
• Assisting with structured groups – Staying Stopped, Life Change and DRIVE
• Running social activity groups – music, art, gardening, social outings
• Befriending – home visits, accompanying people to the shops, hospital/GP
• Accompanying staff on initial home visits
• Providing one-to-one support.

All volunteers and peer mentors undergo training and are supervised and supported by Volunteer and Peer Mentor Coordinators.
